B13 Hatched!
(B12
on Day 2 / Egg #2 40 days at 6:27pm): M perks up as she sees D approaching
6:42:46; M calls out 6:42:52; D lands on left branches 6:42:54 and they both
say good morning to each other; S/C #1
D hops to nest 6:47:11 & M chirps softly, D moves to front of nest 6:47:35,
D tempts M to get up by pecking at the nestover squirrel 6:48:01, M stands up
6:50:07 and D gets his first look on the cams at B12 and the pipped egg
6:50:10, M flaps her wings 6:50:11, D rolls eggs 6:50:34, M to LB 6:50:47, D
snuggles down 6:50:59, M flies out 6:51:09; IR light off 7:13:48; in the
meantime, D snoozes w/his head tucked for over an hour, he wakes up 7:41:07,
looks around, rouses, gets up partially & wiggles around checking the egg
& bobblehead 7:42:10; D repositions 7:43:49 then snuggles down 7:44:14; D
up for parental duties 8:25:13, 8:32:35 & 8:52:09; S/C #2 M in BSD w/fluff 9:04:56, D stands up 9:05:11, D out BSD
9:05:20, M moves over to check on B12 & egg 9:06:57, moves back to pantry
9:07:29; B12 had his/her first little PS at 9:07:33 (at least the first we’ve
seen); M grabs nestover fish 9:07:45, pulls off a bite 9:07:58 then swallows it
9:08:07, pulls off a tiny bite 9:08:18 & eats it too, after eating another
small bite, M offers B12 a first bite 9:09:15, B12 takes it 9:09:24 but drops
it, M tries again 9:09:31 and a couple of more times (M eats it), offers
another bite 9:10:17 and B12 slowly gets the hang of it; M moves over to bole
9:11:07, snuggles down 9:11:45; M squees softly as D flies in BSD w/small fish
10:39:51; M gets the old fish & swallows it in one gulp 10:40:01 then gets
up; she hobbles away from the bole 10:40:45, bracing w/her left wing; she feeds
B12 (Cam 2 10:41:27); D out BSD 10:41:37; M continues to feed B12 10:43:40; D
lands on LB w/fluff 10:44:32, hops to nest 10:44:35; D watches M feed B12 for a
few minutes 10:45:06 & thinking to himself, “I remember how to do that”
then turns his attention to wrangling a branch on the back right rail 10:45:39;
by 10:48:58, D is getting himself tangled up in the branch & M tells him to
get that thing away from the baby!; M stops feeding B12 & moves away &
D moves in to take over 10:50:02; S/C #3
M out BSD 10:50:09 & D snuggles down 10:50:20; D rouses & gets up
for parental duty 10:57:54; M in FD w/large forked branch 10:59:39 which gets
laid on D, who ignores both M & the branch & busies himself fluffing
fluff & tweaking the branch he moved earlier 11:00:11; M yanks on her
branch (it’s stuck) until it pops off & almost goes over the front rail
11:00:44; this time it’s D's turn not to budge, so M takes off out the BSD
11:09:33 (and D can’t believe his eyes!); D first gets up part way to wrangle
w/his stick then all the way up 11:15:38, he gets it out of the way & goes
back for parental duty 11:15:59 & again at 11:37:02; S/C #4 M in BSD w/fluff 12:05:51, D gets up 12:06:04 & hops to
RB 12:06:18 & out 12:06:28; M offers B12 a scrap of leftover 12:06:57, ends
up eating it herself; despite B12 looking up at M expectantly, she just checks
the egg & bobblehead then snuggles down 12:08:54 (as the wind picks up); M
wiggles in place, pulls some fluff close, raises up a bit for better position
& snuggles down 12:09:28; M raises up to check things out & give a
wiggle wiggle 12:10:43, 12:12:38 & 12:12:56; M up 12:14:24 for parental
duties & repositioning; D flies by in background just as M starts to get up
12:16:14; D in BSD w/fluff 12:16:19; M takes the fluff to spread 12:16:25; M
gets up 12:16:35, gives the baby a kiss & the egg a roll & wiggles down
12:16:53; D to LB 12:17:04, turns around & out of view; M up 12:17:50 then
right back down after a quick check 12:18:02; M up several more times for
parental duty through 12:28:55; S/C #5 D
flies in BSD w/a branch which gets placed on front rail; next D grabs M’s big
stick from earlier 12:29:30, wrestles w/it to no avail & then proceeds to
back over M 12:30:00, so M gets up & thinks to herself, “time to get out of
Dodge for a bit” 12:30:09; M hops to LB 12:30:31 & out 12:30:40; D heads
for the bole, rolls the egg & snuggles down 12:31:05; D spreads fluff,
raises up for a quick peek then repositions 12:31:49; D up 1:04:34 for parental
duties; D raises up 1:32:33 for a quick check; S/C #6 M flies by in background 1:53:12, she lands on LB 5:53:22
& D chatters; D gets up 1:53:47 & hops to lower end of LB 1:54:02 &
out 1:54:14; M hops to nest 1:55:02; She pulls up the squirrel 1:55:06; M feeds
B12 1:56:01, or at least attempts to; the little nipper must have managed to
eat some because M didn’t stop feeding until 2:02:03; M pecks around the bole,
fluffs & rolls, snuggles down 2:03:28; D comes in FD w/UFO 2:42:57; D flies
to 11 o'clock branch 2:43:48; D flies off toward back trees 2:45:13; M gets up
3:14:04 to roll-n-such (flap can be seen on egg); Started raining harder so she
snuggles down again 3:15:26; M stays hunkered down through the pouring rain
through 4:30:03; M gets up to feed B12 4:37:33; yum,
tenderized squirrel 4:37:57; Raining harder so M stops to snuggle onto baby
4:41:49; Rain continues to pour with lots of thunder and lightning around
6:14pm; IR light on 6:38:50pm.
