MORN: M sleeping w/head tucked 5:00:00am. M gets up 5:25:32 for egg duty,
shimmies down 5:27:14; she tucks her head 5:50:29. MORN: M still resting
6:00:00 despite the cold & wind; M up 6:49:31 for egg duty, repositions
& snuggles down 6:51:59; M calls out softly 7:15:44; M up 7:26:18 w/a
squee, spreads her wings & flaps to steady herself 7:26:27 & squees
loudly, she moves away from eggs on right talon & spreads her wings for
balance; squees 7:27:03; M slowly moves back to her eggs 7:27:20, rolls eggs,
squees, rolls eggs, fluffs 7:27:46 & shimmies down 7:28:34 squeeing the
whole time; chirps 7:29:30 & squees 7:29:36. S/C #1 – D in SD 7:29:41; M
tells him, “It’s about time!” as she gets up 7:29:48; M to LB 7:29:54 & out
7:30:00. Ground report per Bel: “After the 7:30-ish shift change, mom flew over
to her favorite perch; after about two minutes, she flew off low over the
college buildings toward garden lakes.” D egg duty 7:30:07, snuggles down
7:30:26; D up for egg duty 7:38:40; IR light off 7:39:17. Ground report per
Bel: “Just before 8 o’clock, mom flew across Garden Lake. Seemed to be scoping
it out, but she continued on and I lost her when she disappeared behind a tree.”
D egg duty 8:10:19, 8:11:48 & 8:14:56. Ground Report per Bel (circa 8:35):
“I went for a walk around the lake, and mom was perched in a back tree. After
a few minutes, she took a flight across the lake and then headed inland to
perch somewhere where I can’t see her.” D up 9:23:12, repositions &
rolls/fluffs, snuggles down 9:23:28; D up again 9:24:16 for a quick roll/fluff.
At 9:45, Bel reports that, “Mom is on her favorite perch.” D up 10:17:02 for
egg duty. S/C #2 - D up 10:33:50, flaps his wings as M lands on back rail
10:33:59 & hops to LB 10:34:00 flapping his wings & vocalizing, he
flies out FD 10:34:08. Ground Report per Bel: “Mom stayed on her favorite
perch, when she left, she circled around back behind the trees to grab a branch
to come in at shift change. That was around 10:30? When dad left, he came out
to their favorite perch, stayed about two minutes, then flew out toward the
quarry or Garden Lakes.” After making her way slowly to the eggs using her
wings for balance, M rolls/fluffs 10:35:11, snuggles down 10:37:12, but gets
right back up for another roll & some beak-plowing 10:37:21, she shimmies
down 10:38:59; M preens 11:16:57; M up 11:17:23 for egg duty; M searches the
sky & turns her head up 11:34:00, calls out & chatters big-time for the
next minute; M gets up 11:35:40 still chirping & carrying on (she looks
& sounds agitated). D lands on LB 11:36:36 & he joins M with the vocals.
Ground Report per Bel: “Had a juvenile that was circling and hovering over the
nest. As it started to circle away dad came in and landed on the tree next to
the approach cam pole. When the juvie circled back toward the nest tree, dad
flew over and landed on the left branch. After another circle, the juvie seemed
to have left the area, flying out over the entrance road and beyond the trees.”
M rolls/fluffs 11:37:46; M & D vocal again 11:39:23; D out FD 11:48:26; M
squees & gets up 11:48:52 for egg duty. Ground Report per Bel: “Dad is
currently perched in a tree to the left of the nest tree, partly hidden behind
a lot of small sticks.” S/C #3 - M up 12:09:48, she flies out the BSD 12:10:06;
D in BSD 12:10:48. Ground Report per Bel – “12:10 PM dad flew off, across the
entrance road. Dad circled back around while I was at the Krannert building.
Mom and Dad both circled for a minute per BEP, then Dad went to the nest and
Mom went to favorite perch. M flew off across the entrance road around 12:25
PM.” D rolls eggs 12:11:11; shimmies onto eggs 12:11:25; up for fluff/roll
12:13:20, 12:49:20, 1:06:49, 1:09:20; S/C #4 - M in BSD w/fluff 1:15:44; D
vocalizes 1:15:49; he gets up 1:15:54; D to LB 1:16:05; vocalizes some more
then out 1:16:20; M carefully makes her way to bole to roll eggs 1:17:41; after
several fluffs and rolls, she pulls some fluff around herself 1:20:32; wiggles
onto eggs 1:20:48; not quite comfy, M gets up to change position 1:21:01;
fluff/roll 1:52:18; M gets up 2:50:15; flaps wings for balance 2:50:26; using
wings, she hops to back of nest 2:50:47; vocalizes 2:50:52; M out BSD 2:50:55;
M in BD 2:51:17; she rolls eggs 2:51:43; wiggles onto eggs 2:53:12; M alerts
2:53:31; gets up 2:53:48; shadow of approaching bird 2:53:47; S/C #5 - D lands
on 11 O'clock branch out of sight ?
2:53:51; M out FD 2:53:55 as D vocalizes; D hops to nest 2:54:08; rolls
eggs 2:54:30; rocks onto eggs 2:54:41; D gets up for a fluff/roll 3:13:31; Cam

4:51:26. S/C #6 - M flies by left side of nest 4:51:33; D out BSD 4:51:42; M
flies by again 4:51:48; Ground report per BEL: “Mom teased dad by flying around
the nest. He came out and they flew together a couple of times in a circle.
Then she went in and he went toward GL,” M in FD 4:52:02; vocalizes 4:52:05;
she carefully rolls eggs 4:52:47; snuggles down 4:54:40; M up for roll/fluff n

spent the night, rolled the egg, fluffed the fluff, and got some sleep. M
softly calls to D, S/C #1 D in BSD 7:18:39, he impatiently waits for his turn
to incubate, pecks at fluff 7:19:28 then backs up, stepping on M 7:19:48; D
rearranges fluff near M's head 7:20:45; M stands up 7:21:14 & D wastes no
time to check the bole; D rolls the egg 7:21:56; M out BSD 7:22:31; D rolls the
egg, then lays down to incubate for the 1st time 7:23:47; D gets up to
reposition 7:24:34, more egg rolls, then lays back down 7:24:56; IR light off
7:25:35. S/C #2 D stands up 8:29:48, looks around then flies out FD 8:30:24, M
in FD 8:31:49, moves over to bole 8:32:49, rolls egg 8:33:11, fluffs fluff; flops & snuggles
down 8:36:39; strong winds almost blow M over 9:59:12, she gets up & rolls
her precious egg, digs in the fluff, snuggles back down 10:01:37; M stands up
& watches something with interest 10:22:23, steps away from the egg
10:23:17. S/C #3 M calls out to D then flies out 10:24:28, D in over RB
10:24:48, rolls egg, fluffs fluff, lays down 10:25:49; D tracks something 10:47:40,
stands up 10:48:09, still tracking something 10:48:20, D rouses 10:49:26, rolls
egg 10:51:27 & lays back down 10:51:42; D stands up 11:10:25 & flies
out FD 11:10:42; D in over RB 11:11:21, snuggles down on egg 11:11:30; D stands
up 11:29:46, looks around, D out BSD 11:30:30, D in BSD 11:30:56 & lays
down. S/C #4 D calls to M & stands up 11:35:00, M flies toward nest
11:35:20, M in BSD w/fluff as D flies out FD 11:35:22; M spreads fluff
11:36:51, moves to bole 11:36:30, rolls egg 11:36:44 & beakplows, lays down
11:40:05; M stands up 11:40:25, does more fluffing & looks around, lays
down 11:43:05, pulls up some fluff 11:43:27. S/C #5 M vocal 2:24:36; M stands
up 2:24:55, calls out again 2:25:05; M out FD 2:25:18, D lands on LB 2:25:31,
hops to nest 2:26:01, rolls egg & pulls in some fluff, watches something
2:27:41, rouses 2:29:06, finally lays down 2:39:47; D stands up 3:03:50 &
rolls the egg, he shimmies back down & pulls fluff up close 3:04:28; D gets
up 3:26:03 he peers through the trees & vocalizes; D out BSD 3:35:40. S/C
#6 M soars in the BSD 3:37:04, rolls & fluffs 3:37:48, she settles down to
incubate 3:39:08; M gets up to roll & fluff 4:09:11,
she settles back down 4:11:12; M calls out to D 5:10:23 & gets up 5:10:31
to fluff & roll; she continues to chirp periodically & changes position
5:13:05; M shimmies down 5:14:02; M chirps 5:46:59, she gets louder 5:47:38; D
in BSD 5:47:40; M chatters to him while he straightens up a bit; M gets up
5:48:30, D rolls the egg 5:49:18; beaking 5:51:11; for whatever reason, M didn’t
want to leave so she preens 5:53:55 & D flies out the BD 5:54:01; M tends to
her precious egg & settles down for the night shift 5:56:45; IR light on
6:16:30pm.

8:33:39, he sets it down in the nest, beak-plows for a minute, spreads a little
fluff, looks around, then heads out the BSD 8:36:57; M in FD 9:32:02; D flies
toward the nest 9:323:21 & in BSD 9:33:24; D to RB 9:27:28 & out 9:28:02;
D in FD w/small stick 10:13:56; M to LB 10:15:06 & out 10:15:11; D follows
her out FD 10:15:18; Eagle chatter heard in the background 10:34:09; M in FD
w/small stick 10:54:05; M moves a twig 10:54:44 then digs in nest; D in FD
10:55:18; M out BSD 10:59:59; D out BD 11:00:36; D in BD w/huge load of fluff

11:07:03; Per BEP: Dad flew towards creek so maybe he will find big fish
trapped in flooded area. M jumps as a limb falls off the back-right side of the
nest tree 11:14:00; M starts doing her "incoming food" yell 11:15:36;
D does a beautiful fly-in the BD w/squirrel 11:16:03; M chirps her thanks and
then nips at squirrel 11:16:56; D moves a stick 11:17:32; D rouses 11:18:41,
both looking around, M hasn't started eating yet; D flies to 11-o'clock branch
11:19:36; M keeps vocalizing, D adds his voice to her chorus 11:28:55; D flies
off 11:32:14 (landed on fav perch per BEP); lunchtime, M finally starts eating
12:17:35; M eats a little, then looks around, eats a bit more, looks around
some more; M gulps down a big portion of the squirrel pelt 1:55:42; M out BSD
1:57:58; D in FD w/fluff 2:45:29; he is distracted from spreading by some
nestovers 2:45:36; D looks around for more tidbits 2:48:20; D rouses 2:54:10;
out BSD 2:54:47; flock of black birds buzz by the nest 4:25:43 to 4:26:25 Cam 1
reset 4:52pm. D in BD w/lots of fluff 5:37:33; works on right back rail
5:37:59; digs in bole 5:39:10; Twiggy time 5:40:26; removes feather from Twiggy
5:40:38; M in BSD w/fluff 5:47:25; D digs in bole 5:47:41; M helps 5:48:10; D
lays in bole 5:49:44; repositions and kicks with feet 5:50:09 then gets up;
more digging 5:51:05; D rouses 5:51:47; he does some more bole adjustments
5:53:25; He lays down again 5:54:13 and pulls some fluff around him; gets up
5:55:43; M preens 5:56:39; D out BD 5:57:24; IR comes on 6:02:45; M lays down

been raining for a while, M stands up 10:46:00, scratches her head 10:46:20pm

M in BSD 9:33:35 (she stumbles); D to LB 9:43:43 & out 9:45:23; M out BSD
9:52:08. D in FD w/stick 11:38:36, he totes it here & there & finally
places it on back rail 11:39:27; D to LB 11:45:36 & out 11:46:12. M in BSD
12:08:43pm; D in FD 12:09:31, both beak-plow; D lays down in the bole 12:12:45;
D to LB 12:24:09 & out 12:24:15; D in BSD w/fluff 12:27:09; D steps up to
RB 12:32:38 & out 12:33:02; M preens while D is away; D in BSD w/stick

then squees as he approaches nest 1:04:08; D in BD w/mangled partial coot 1:04:10

down the last of her meal 2:04:49; M to LB 2:05:39 & out 2:05:42. D in BD w/fluff
2:31:50, he decides it’s time to do something with an unruly pine-cone branch
& goes to work on it 2:32:19; D tries his best to break off the twiggy end
2:33:04; D steps away from the branch 2:41:03 for a break, he’s back at it

MORN: M (or someone/thing) misses the nest an attempt to enter the nest via FD
3:28:16am; M in BSD 3:28:53, she chatters to D 3:29:05; M tucks her head for a
quick preen & rest 4:03:14; crop drop 5:47:46; M beak-plows the bole then
lays down 6:06:18; D lands on LB 7:07:19, vocalizes, scratches head, moves down
LB, then to nest 7:08:35; after checking out the bole, D lays down just-a-kickin’
those feet (his backside is towards cam so you can really see him good, lol)
7:10:46; D to RB 7:15:52 & out 7:16:09; M out BSD 7:21:24; IR light off
7:25:09. M in FD w/a long curved branch 8:50:41 & gets tripped up in the
process; D in FD w/fluff 8:51:56; they both struggle w/M’s stick trying to get
it placed 8:52:49; D finally gets it over on the left rail 8:53:37; D out BSD
8:57:56 leaving M alone on the nest; M calls out 9:31:48; M continues to call
out every few mins, starts getting louder & more frequent 9:58:02, reaches
a crescendo 9:58:51 as D flies in BSD w/squirrel 9:58:53; M claims the squirrel
9:59:03 & continues to "talk" to D; M starts eating 9:59:54 &
D starts aerating the fluff; D flies to 11-o'clock branch 10:05:40, flies off
10:07:51; M finishes eating, looks around for a while, flies out BSD 11:17:59; eagle
lands on LB (D?) 11:19:23; E rouses 11:36:32; E flies off 11:43:49; M in FD
w/stick 12:29:02; M spends several hours in the nest enjoying the beautiful
sunshine; M tracking something 2:30:38, vocally alerts 2:30:59, continues
tracking; M rouses 2:40:47, then resumes staring at something; M out BSD 2:43:34. Cam
1 reset 5:40:36; M flies behind nest & lands on back tree 5:58:43; D in BSD
5:58:49, he looks around for a few minutes then heads out the BD 6:01:45; IR

to RB 7:03:26; IR light off 7:31:20; M starts tracking something 7:57:10,
softly chirps 7:57:17; D in BSD 8:25:36, he moves a stick & both nestorize;
M chirps & talks to D 8:35:26; D out BSD 8:38:05; M preens 9:20:04; M seems
quite intent with her surroundings for the past hour or so, peering here &
there 10:20:00; M out BSD 10:57:39; M in FD 11:23:38; D lands on LB 11:37:49
& M starts digging in the fluff; D hops to nest 11:38:14; both P's appear
to be tracking something 11:39:00; D shakes his head 11:41:28 & M nips at
him; they go back to scanning the skies; D turns around & M has to move out
of his way (up onto the right rail) 11:44:07; both
still watching something; M preens her chest feathers 12:01:58; D out BSD
12:03:21, M follows 12:04:32; M in over RB w/fluff 1:30:26; M out BSD 2:14:04;
D lands on LB 2:38:32, hops to nest 2:40:50; Cam 1 reset 2:56pm; D flies to
11-o'clock branch 3:24:25; D flies off 4:05:47; D in BD w/lots of fluff
4:08:26; D plops down & snuggles in 4:10:57; D stands up 4:15:50, flies out

5:12:33; M nibbles on D's feathers 5:12:41 as D pulls fluff around him; M
starts nibbling on D again 5:13:04 & he stands up 5:13:26; D fluffs the
bole, then lays back down 5:15:01; D gets up to adjust the fluff 5:15:40 then
lays down again 5:16:45; M chirps 5:19:17, 5:20:59, 5:21:57, and again every
minute or so; M calls louder 5:25:17; M
squawks at D 5:47:47 & he stands up 5:47:51 & fluffs the fluff; D lays
down 5:48:54; D stands up 5:54:50; M preens D's head feathers 5:56:50 &
5:57:07, a bit of beaking as he objects 5:57:09; M back up to back rail
5:57:26, leans over to give D a peck 5:57:40; after a bit of beakplowing, D
snuggles back down 5:58:31; D stands up 5:59:18; D to RB 5:59:56; M walks to
center of nest 6:00:20 & arranges the fluff; D flies off 6:00:47 &
behind the nest 6:00:50; M lays down as the IR light comes on 6:04:34pm. M
sleeping peacefully until Rocky hops onto the back rail 9:13:39, she partially
spreads her wings, gives him "the look" 9:13:42 & he does a
flying leap off the nest.

Rainy
night & morning; Fly-by behind nest 7:24:01am; D in to LB 7:24:12, hops to
nest 7:24:20 where he does some beakplowing; IR light off 7:29:40; D to LB
7:30:3 & out 7:31:02; Messy-Head M in FD 7:31:33, she also fluffs the
fluff; D in FD w/fluff 7:33:09; D picks up the fluff 7:33:13 & gives it to
M 7:33:15; D practically stands on M's head 7:33:29 trying to help spread fluff
& aerate the nest; M picks up & moves a big pile of fluff 7:34:26,
using her wing & D for balance; D out BD 7:45:25 & M watches him fly
around; M out BSD 8:12:04; D in FD w/fluff 11:13:09; wet & bedraggled M
lands on LB 11:13:20, hops to nest 11:13:46; D rouses 11:17:26; M out BD
11:21:30; D out BSD 11:26:28; M in FD w/fluff 12:09:17pm; D in FD w/branch
12:10:19; M out BSD 12:11:49; after digging in the nest, D has another go at
Twiggy 12:12:57; M in FD with big stick 12:15:03; stick war 12:15:07; M won the
stick war, so after she places the stick D goes over to move it (lol) 12:15:33;

stick from the left rail 7:27:25 to the right and then almost back to where it
came from; M flies by on the right side 7:27:54; M in FD 7:28:12; D moves the
same stick 7:31:11 (in a circle, ends up putting it on the back rail); M to LB
7:32:46 & out 7:33:07; D trims stick on the front-left 7:33:11; D to LB 7:35:58
& out 7:36:08; D in FD w/stick 7:42:12; a Y-shaped stick flips over and
takes a brief ride on D's neck (lol) 7:43:26; D walks up RB 7:49:00 & flies
out 7:49:11; D in FD w/another Y-shaped stick 7:57:05; D to LB 8:02:30, flies
out 8:05:38; Deer can be seen on ground to the left from 8:13:37 to 8:27:26; D
in FD w/stick 8:16:51, places it and then flies out BD 8:20:42; D in BD

behind nest 9:49:13; D in BSD w/twig 9:51:43; drops it on M's food 9:51:50;

pulls the squirrel toward her 10:21:49; D retrieves the pinecone 10:21:58; and
it pops out of his mouth to land near squirrel 10:22:03; M moves the squirrel
to the back 10:22:18; D discretely nibbles on other food 10:22:31; M starts
defurring the squirrel 10:23:46; D to LB 10:25:25; and out 10:26:32; D in FD

10:46:24; hits M with it 10:46:41; puts over M's tail 10:46:46; then pulls
making M move 10:46:51; While taking it across the nest, it lands on his back

then to back 10:49:04; won't fit so back to front 10:49:44; finally to right
10:50:19; D continues his nestorations as M eats; D moves a stick from under M
10:58:36; M tries to swallow pelt 11:15:58; and again 11:16:28; almost gone
11:17:06; M takes it back out then does a crop drop 11:17:57; D out BD
11:25:22; After nibbling on it more, M tries to down it again 11:28:57; and

M being gone and nibbles in pantry then starts on the squirrel 11:33:54; Cam 1
reset 11:58am; D finishes nibbling & heads for the left rail to move some

places it on the right front rail; M backs up & perches on the back rail

behind nest 1:13:22; M in FD w/pine sprig in her mouth 1:13:34; D takes it from
her 1:13:41; Both do some nestorations then stand looking around until D hops
to the RB 1:34:31 & out 1:34:54; D in FD w/fluff 1:38:29; he does more
nestorations slowly covering squirrel then M hops to the LB from the back of
the nest 1:56:24; M out 1:56:39; D to LB 1:56:45; D out 1:57:31; D lands on LB
with stick in right talon 2:51:12; He loses it when he hops to the nest and the
stick remains hung by the Y nook 2:51:26; D moves another stick and the new one
pokes up a bit 2:51:40; D digs up the squirrel 2:52:59 and begins to eat; M in
to LB 2:54:42; turns her head to see what D is eating 2:54:58; D stops eating
after the second look M gives him and moves to the bole 2:55:29; D works on
vertical stick at front 2:58:43; M hops to nest 3:02:34; D to 11 o'clock branch

stick then plays with a loose feather & then beak-plows; D out BSD 2:24:08;
D in BD w/stk 2:25:04; D out BSD 2:30:17; D in BD w/stk 2:33:34, he places it
on the right rail then moves it to the front rail 2:34:11; crop drop for D
2:46:27; D out BSD 2:47:12; D in FD w/stk? 2:48:11; D does mini-nestorizations
while M looks on; D out BSD 2:56:12; M preens 4:21:16; M still on the nest
alone 4:21:16; M out BSD 5:13:29. D in BSD w/pine cone branch 6:49:46, he
places it on the front rail then picks it up & moves it around, eventually
placing it on the left rail 6:50:15, he chomps on it to whittle it down; D gets

M
& D flew in the BD beautifully early this afternoon, first M at 12:05:35pm
& then D at 12:07:21; both did a little beak-plowing (D more than M); M
pecks at D 12:11:51; D to RB 12:12:53, rouses 12:13:17 & flies off
12:13:39. M stays behind & enjoys Berry Mountain Days Homecoming
Festivities, finally flying out the BSD at 2:13:58.
