clock not adjusted to DST): IR light off 6:02:05am; E flyby right side of nest
6:02:17; Cam 1 reset 6:02:24; D in BSD w/stick 6:04:44; D, with feather-bling
on his beak, places the stick on the front rail 6:04:49, moves the stick to the
left 6:05:09; D digs in the nest 6:05:16 and ends up with more beak bling
(fluff or string) 6:06:03; D out BSD 6:07:11. D in BSD 12:18:50, he looks
around intently; D puffs up, vocalizes & goes into defense mode as a juvie
lands on RB 12:25:46; after the initial confrontation, D moves away & the
juvie remains perched 12:25:53; D chatters & calls out as he tracks M
12:28:05; M in BSD12:28:23 & she’s not happy; M lets the juvie know in no
uncertain terms of her discontent by vocalizing loudly with D joining in, but
once again the juvie seems unconcerned & remains perched on RB; for the
next 1 ½ hours, it’s a stand-off w/M perched on the back rail, D in the middle
of the nest w/his back to the juvie, who is still perched on the RB; but then D
gets mad when the juvie moves around on the branch 1:48:40 & then has the
nerve to hop down to the right rail 1:49:25; D moves over & M goes
ballistic 1:49:36; juvie starts to put a foot on the nest & M jumps into
action chasing the juvie back to the RB 1:52:31 & vocalizing big time; juvie
finally flies off at 2:19:43 & D tells him/her “good
riddance!”; D sticks around guarding the nest w/M for the next 1 ½ hours then
he flies out the BD 3:39:25; >>>M still on nest 7:00:50 when D flies
in BSD; M to LB 7:05:01 & out 7:05:23; D to LB 7:07:50 & out 7:08:13;
IR light on 7:29:06pm.

EARLY
MORN: M sleeping w/head tucked 5:00:00am. M gets up 5:25:32 for egg duty,
shimmies down 5:27:14; she tucks her head 5:50:29. MORN: M still resting
6:00:00 despite the cold & wind; M up 6:49:31 for egg duty, repositions
& snuggles down 6:51:59; M calls out softly 7:15:44; M up 7:26:18 w/a
squee, spreads her wings & flaps to steady herself 7:26:27 & squees
loudly, she moves away from eggs on right talon & spreads her wings for
balance; squees 7:27:03; M slowly moves back to her eggs 7:27:20, rolls eggs,
squees, rolls eggs, fluffs 7:27:46 & shimmies down 7:28:34 squeeing the
whole time; chirps 7:29:30 & squees 7:29:36. S/C #1 – D in SD 7:29:41; M
tells him, “It’s about time!” as she gets up 7:29:48; M to LB 7:29:54 & out
7:30:00. Ground report per Bel: “After the 7:30-ish shift change, mom flew over
to her favorite perch; after about two minutes, she flew off low over the
college buildings toward garden lakes.” D egg duty 7:30:07, snuggles down
7:30:26; D up for egg duty 7:38:40; IR light off 7:39:17. Ground report per
Bel: “Just before 8 o’clock, mom flew across Garden Lake. Seemed to be scoping
it out, but she continued on and I lost her when she disappeared behind a tree.”
D egg duty 8:10:19, 8:11:48 & 8:14:56. Ground Report per Bel (circa 8:35):
“I went for a walk around the lake, and mom was perched in a back tree. After
a few minutes, she took a flight across the lake and then headed inland to
perch somewhere where I can’t see her.” D up 9:23:12, repositions &
rolls/fluffs, snuggles down 9:23:28; D up again 9:24:16 for a quick roll/fluff.
At 9:45, Bel reports that, “Mom is on her favorite perch.” D up 10:17:02 for
egg duty. S/C #2 - D up 10:33:50, flaps his wings as M lands on back rail
10:33:59 & hops to LB 10:34:00 flapping his wings & vocalizing, he
flies out FD 10:34:08. Ground Report per Bel: “Mom stayed on her favorite
perch, when she left, she circled around back behind the trees to grab a branch
to come in at shift change. That was around 10:30? When dad left, he came out
to their favorite perch, stayed about two minutes, then flew out toward the
quarry or Garden Lakes.” After making her way slowly to the eggs using her
wings for balance, M rolls/fluffs 10:35:11, snuggles down 10:37:12, but gets
right back up for another roll & some beak-plowing 10:37:21, she shimmies
down 10:38:59; M preens 11:16:57; M up 11:17:23 for egg duty; M searches the
sky & turns her head up 11:34:00, calls out & chatters big-time for the
next minute; M gets up 11:35:40 still chirping & carrying on (she looks
& sounds agitated). D lands on LB 11:36:36 & he joins M with the vocals.
Ground Report per Bel: “Had a juvenile that was circling and hovering over the
nest. As it started to circle away dad came in and landed on the tree next to
the approach cam pole. When the juvie circled back toward the nest tree, dad
flew over and landed on the left branch. After another circle, the juvie seemed
to have left the area, flying out over the entrance road and beyond the trees.”
M rolls/fluffs 11:37:46; M & D vocal again 11:39:23; D out FD 11:48:26; M
squees & gets up 11:48:52 for egg duty. Ground Report per Bel: “Dad is
currently perched in a tree to the left of the nest tree, partly hidden behind
a lot of small sticks.” S/C #3 - M up 12:09:48, she flies out the BSD 12:10:06;
D in BSD 12:10:48. Ground Report per Bel – “12:10 PM dad flew off, across the
entrance road. Dad circled back around while I was at the Krannert building.
Mom and Dad both circled for a minute per BEP, then Dad went to the nest and
Mom went to favorite perch. M flew off across the entrance road around 12:25
PM.” D rolls eggs 12:11:11; shimmies onto eggs 12:11:25; up for fluff/roll
12:13:20, 12:49:20, 1:06:49, 1:09:20; S/C #4 - M in BSD w/fluff 1:15:44; D
vocalizes 1:15:49; he gets up 1:15:54; D to LB 1:16:05; vocalizes some more
then out 1:16:20; M carefully makes her way to bole to roll eggs 1:17:41; after
several fluffs and rolls, she pulls some fluff around herself 1:20:32; wiggles
onto eggs 1:20:48; not quite comfy, M gets up to change position 1:21:01;
fluff/roll 1:52:18; M gets up 2:50:15; flaps wings for balance 2:50:26; using
wings, she hops to back of nest 2:50:47; vocalizes 2:50:52; M out BSD 2:50:55;
M in BD 2:51:17; she rolls eggs 2:51:43; wiggles onto eggs 2:53:12; M alerts
2:53:31; gets up 2:53:48; shadow of approaching bird 2:53:47; S/C #5 - D lands
on 11 O'clock branch out of sight ?
2:53:51; M out FD 2:53:55 as D vocalizes; D hops to nest 2:54:08; rolls
eggs 2:54:30; rocks onto eggs 2:54:41; D gets up for a fluff/roll 3:13:31; Cam
1 reset 4:26pm; D up for fluff/roll 4:41:17; D gets up 4:51:21; vocalizes
4:51:26. S/C #6 - M flies by left side of nest 4:51:33; D out BSD 4:51:42; M
flies by again 4:51:48; Ground report per BEL: “Mom teased dad by flying around
the nest. He came out and they flew together a couple of times in a circle.
Then she went in and he went toward GL,” M in FD 4:52:02; vocalizes 4:52:05;
she carefully rolls eggs 4:52:47; snuggles down 4:54:40; M up for roll/fluff n
stuff 5:33:19, 5:55:10; IR light comes on 6:24:35pm.

WHAT A DAY!
P's
heard chattering nearby as sirens blare down the street 7:04:03am; IR light off
7:04:36; M flies f/back perch 7:15:29 & in BSD 7:15:32 with D right behind
& in BSD 7:15:38; M to LB 7:17:27 & out 7:17:30; D to LB 7:20:07 &
out 7:20:37; Cam 1 reset 7:59:48; Cam 1 reset 9.47; D in BSD w/stk 10:07:56; He
has a hard time deciding where to put it and it ends up on left rail 10:08:27;
fluffs up bole then moves a branch from the front rail 10:09:41; works on
another stick at front 10:10:19 almost losing it; watches area for a bit then
hops to LB 10:16:53; does a head shake 10:17:03; Watches something intently
then out 10:18:51; D in BSD w/stk 10:27:02; D out BSD 10:33:09; D in BD w/fluff
10:51:09; D spreads the fluff, watches the area before hopping to the LB
11:08:55; Rouses 11:09:15; watches area as he gets a little wind-blown then out
11:12:00; Nice fly in as D comes in BD w/stk 11:14:03; D to LB 11:17:48; D out
11:17:54.

Juvie? land on outer LB 5:02:51pm; Turns around on branch? 5:03:37; Flies off
5:03:50; Can see behind nest 5:03:52; Reset 5:42pm; P fly by behind nest
5:49:25; D arrives on RB 5:51:50; D to nest from RB 5:52:24; Juvie flies behind
nest 5:52:40 as IR light comes on; Juvie lands on back-left branch 5:52:46
& tries to come on the nest but D is there to stop it; Juvie hops to a
branch on the left side 5:52:47; D to RB 5:53:25; Juvie hops to back-left branch
5:53:59, moves to different limb 5:55:11, then flies onto nest 5:55:16 &
digs in the fluff; Juvie moves a stick 5:56:40 then aerates some more, digging
up lots of fluff; Juvie digs up a stick & tosses it to the side 5:58:50.
P heard
chattering nearby 5:59:13; Juvie hops to RB 5:59:32, turns around 6:00:00 then
hops back to nest 6:00:02 to move sticks from the right rail; Juvie moves stick
to back side 6:00:52 & tries to trim it before getting it just where s/he
wants it; Juvie to RB 6:01:47, D wing flaps as he moves the Juvie off his RB
perch 6:02:29; D pushes Juvie back to nest 6:02:35, then Juvie hops to LB
6:02:39; D moves up RB & out of sight 6:03:07; Juvie moves up LB & out
of sight 6:03:57; Juvie hops to nest 6:05:13 to fluff more fluff; M heard
calling from nearby 6:06:51 & it sounds like another eagle is answering
her; Juvie moves a small stick from the back rail 6:07:45 then goes to front of
the nest 6:08:01, starts looking around as if watching something 6:08:12; Juvie
moves the back of the nest 6:08:23 and flies to back-left branch 6:08:36; D
hops to nest 6:19:45 & picks at the fluff; D heads over to the left side of
the nest 6:20:57; D is scratches his head 6:21:13 & is startled when the
Juvie hops back on the nest 6:21:16; Juvie bites at D's tail feathers 6:21:23
as D seems to ignore it; when Juvie nips at his wing, D posters & lightly
beaks at the juvie 6:21:58 then starts working on the right rail 6:22:19; D
beaks again 6:22:38 & then flaps wings while beaking trying to push Juvie
off the nest 6:23:03; D gets a bit more aggressive 6:23:11 & Juvie moves to
left side of nest; D hops to RB 6:23:17; Juvie is nonplussed and starts moving
sticks 6:23:33; Juvie hops to LB 6:26:58 then moves higher up & out of
sight 6:27:20; Juvie hops back to nest 6:33:01 & starts moving sticks
6:33:17; Juvie hops to LB 6:37:38 & turns around 6:37:56 then rouses
6:38:03; D hops to nest from RB 6:46:03,
starts fixing the bole 6:46:08; Juvie joins him 6:46:41 & starts moving
fluff; Juvie beaks towards D 6:46:53 & D gets in his face, Juvie hops to
back of nest 6:46:56; D lunges at Juvie 6:47:39 & Juvie sidesteps; D nips
at Juvie 6:47:44 & throws in a chest bump which forces Juvie to fly out BSD
at 6:47:49; D walks to the right side 6:48:28, then turns around to dig in the
nest 6:49:24; D peers out the back left side as if to make sure Juvie is gone
6:54:16; D feaks on LB 6:55:00, then hops to RB 6:55:38; D moves down RB
6:54:52 and gives ferocious looks out towards the back of the nest; D hops to
nest 7:55:14 & flies to back-left branch 7:56:42; M chatters from her perch
nearby 10:10:45pm.
NOTE: Due to action seen the next morning, it was NOT Dad Berry on the nest with Juvie, nor was it D that stayed on the 11-o'clock branch overnight. It was an adult intruder that we assumed was Dad (see nest log for 11/16) and the eagles heard chattering nearby were Mom & Dad.

what is shown on the cam clock) IR light off 7:44:47; D heard alerting 8:12:29,
then he flies in under LB w/food (partial squirrel)) 8:12:31 and is followed by a juvenile eagle that lands on
the back branch 8:12:33; D quickly flaps his wings at the intruder & the
juvie flies off 8:12:34; D continues alerting until 8:12:54; D turns to his
food 8:13:09 and starts eating; D finishes gulping down his breakfast 8:29:40;
D to LB 8:31:32 where he perches on sentry duty; D flies off 9:11:59. Eagle
flies behind nest 11:26:25, D in BSD 11:26:35; D to RB 11:41:19 & out
11:41:36. Squeeing heard 3:28:06pm, M in FD 3:28:21;
M squees 4:09:58, D in BSD w/food (partial squirrel) 4:10:08 which M
immediately grabs; D to LB 4:11:53 & out 4:13:01; M gulps down the pelt
4:28:40; M out BSD 4:32:18 & flies behind nest. P leaves perch in back tree
6:56:32, D in BSD 6:56:38, M in BS 6:56:43; D out BD 7:01:47, M out BSD
7:02:47; IR light on 7:04:35pm.
