stayed on the nest overnight, rainy night & morning. EARLY MORN: M shakes
off the rain 12:36:03am; does a few crop drops 2:21:37; stretches left leg
& tail 3:16:16, PS's 3:17:50, then stoically resumes her perch on the rail;
preens chest feathers 4:30:29; M uses her wing to balance 5:01:02 (still on the
right rail, still raining); M appears to be looking at something nearby 5:02:21
(turns head as if tracking it); M steps onto the nest 5:03:34, still tracking
something; M preens right wing 5:04:58, then backs onto the right rail 5:05:23
and quietly stands. MORN: M preens
6:07:11; the rains seems to have slacked off a bit, but still very windy
6:18:00; M stretches her left foot & wing out very slowly 6:38:39 then
preens some more; crop drop 7:16:00; M slowly stretches out her left foot &
wing again 7:20:15 & preens; M takes a step into the nest 7:23:25 &
peers in the darkness; she takes a couple more steps & picks up nestovers
7:24:14 & starts gulping it down 7:24:33, she tries to hold it down with
her left foot but can’t; (Cam 2 shows that she manages to stand on it with her
right talon); she finishes her snack 7:33:25; M out BSD 7:35:24; D lands on LB
7:39:20, to nest 7:39:49 to aerate bole, he pulls up big tufts of fluff
7:41:16; D pecks around in the pantry 7:43:51; D picks up something in his beak
& carries it to front rail & out 7:44:50; IR light off 7:46:35. E flies
low to the ground on the right side 8:50:26; M in FD w/greenery in beak
8:51:17; M out BSD 9:07:45; M in BSD w/stick 10:25:39; M out BSD 10:58:45. AFTERNOON:
D lands on LB 12:12:21, hops to nest 12:12:35 to move M's stick, starts
aerating the fluff 12:13:04; D checks pantry for nestovers 12:14:07 but only
finds a few crumbs; D hops to RB 12:16:50, rouses 12:17:27, flies off 12:17:35;
D in FD w/huge branch 12:37:55; places it on the front rail, then the back,
then leaves it at the BD; D rouses 12:40:29; D out BSD
12:43:50; D in FD w/fish 1:47:57; he begins eating 1:48:00; D finishes his
snack 1:50:48; After cleaning up the evidence, he moves the big stick 1:51:14;
and places on right rail 1:51:22; rouses 1:53:34; D sneezes 1:53:56; after
watching something intently, he flaps his wings with the wind and glides out
BSD 1:56:10; a storm is moving in & the wind is really picking up as an E
flies by behind the nest 2:06:49; M approaches from the rear of nest 2:06:57
& flies in BSD 2:07:00; D flies toward the nest 2:09:01 & in BSD &
in 2:09:05; M has to use wing to catch her balance as D bumps her while moving
some greenery 2:09:37; D digs in the nest 2:09:43; D moves some small sticks
2:12:25; D hops to RB 2:13:06 & out 2:13:25; M is watching something with
interest; M vocally alerts 2:19:39, craning her neck & throwing back her
head, vocals stop 2:20:07; M preens her wing 2:40:55; M digs in bole 2:41:31
and hunkers down against the wind; strong wind gets even stronger 2:49:30; nest
& surrounding trees swaying like crazy 2:51:15; M turns to face front of
nest 2:51:44, opens her wings 2:51:53, then lifts them up and does a small hop
2:51:58, strong winds lift her up & out the FD 2:51:59; D in BSD 3:47:16;
Nice fly out FD from center of nest 3:49:42; M in BD 3:50:29; D in BSD 3:50:33;
(wind had died down a bit) M digs in nest 3:50:37 & D joins her 3:50:41; D
steps up 3:51:50 & pushes M out of the way; D moves to front of nest to
rearrange the greenery 3:52:50 & M starts fluffing the fluff again; both
stop to watch something 3:53:02; D hops to RB 3:53:02 & out 3:53:32; wind
picks up again 3:57:04; M out FD 4:19:42; M in BSD 4:36:58; digs in nest
4:37:14; M preens 4:41:46 & 4:42:47; back feathers ruffle 4:43:01; M starts
calling (to D?) 4:53:19, gets progressively louder; D in BSD with UFO (mangled
rabbit or squirrel) 4:55:05; M claims it 4:55:09 & starts trying to swallow
it whole; M manages to gulp it down 4:56:51; M digs in nest and makes little
chirping sounds as D hops to RB 5:05:29 & out 5:06:23; M lays down 5:09:42; M
preens her back 5:31:47; wind picks up again 5:32:55; M swipes her head on her
shoulder 5:44:16; M stands up 5:54:21, preens 5:54:34; M scratches her head
5:55:51 then preens her chest, digs in bole 5:56:22, then lays back down
5:56:30; IR light on 6:07:27; M stands up 7:34:05, stretches her foot and wing
7:35:25, then preens her wings 7:34:52; scratches her head 7:38:23; digs in
bole 7:39:51, then sits on her haunches; M lays back down 7:40:43; Rocky
appears on the left rail 8:13:02, skips up to a sleeping M's tail 8:13:12, then
hops over her wing 8:13:14 & wakes M's up; M jumps up with a few wingslaps
8:13:15 & Rocky hops off the nest 8:13:17; M preens her chest/belly
8:24:29, preens her wing back 8:25:50, stretches her wing 8:29:09, digs in the
nest 8:29:20, lays back down 8:30:50; M changes positions in the bole 8:31:59; M
wakes up to preen her back 10:01:45, stands up 10:03:06 to preen her front,
scratches her chin 10:04:06, squats down to dig in the bole 10:04:25, lays back
down 10:04:09; repositions to preen her back 10:06:21; M gets up & preens
belly 10:50:13 then preens her back; digs in nest 10:50:50; stretches 10:51:50,
backs up to left rail 10:52:42, PS 10:53:52, hops to center of nest 10:53:57; digs
in nest 10:54:42, lays back down 10:55:13; Preens wing 11:07:32; tucks head on
back 11:10:03; Cam 1 reset 11:19pm.
