wakes up 2:19:19, slowly stands up 2:19:30; preens 2:19:52 & scratches head
2:20:20; fluffs fluff 2:22:45, preens
2:23:29, more fluffing 2:25:27, lays down 2:25:49; tucks head on back 2:36:30;
wakes up to preen shoulders 3:16:36: tucks head again 3:26:02; wakes up to crop
drop 3:48:31; tucks head 3:49:46; preens 4:05:57 & 4:14:58; M stands up
4:26:47, scratches head then stretches left wing 4;27:06; preens 4:27:39;
slowly backs up to left rail 4:28:55, softly calls out 4:29:25, PS's 4:29:36;
walks back to bole 4:29:52; fluffs fluff 4:30:49, lays down 4:32:59; tucks head
4:55:40; M slowly sits up 5:48:07, then stands 5:48:23 to preen; scratches head
5:51:34; yawns 5:56:0. MORN: M stands quietly, preens belly 6:10:29; poofs up a
bit 6:11:08, briefly chirps 6:11:34; stands around some more, poofing up now
& then (warmth? beginning labor? gotta wait to see); crop drop 6:26:56;
more preening, stretches left wing 6:33:06; M casts a pellet 6:39:34 - 6:39:59;
preens 6:43:25; chirps 6:44:30 then preens some more; a few soft chirps, then
scratches head 6:46:17 then fluffs the fluff; repositions so she can fluff other
side of bole 6:47:45; lays down 6:48:40; repositions 6:50:01; swipes head on
shoulder 7:02:41, tucks head to sleep 7:02:47;
M watches D fly toward nest 7:09:11, sounds like he landed on left side
on tree 7:09:14; M stands up 7:09:26: D hops to nest 7:12:08; D knocked a stick
into the nest causing M to have to move it 7:12:32; D checks bole 7:12:40 &
digs a bit, then moves a stick 7:15:51; M fluffs the bole 7:16:00; D works on
the stick at the LB 7:16:15; D works on bole 7:17:40, M does too; M drags some
fluff to the bole 7:18:53; D rouses 7:21:18; M moves some fluff 7:24:21; IR
light off 7:25:42; D to LB 7:30:22, rouses 7:30:53, flies out 7:31:20. Ground
Report per Lou: Dad flew out over the Krannert Center, then took a right toward
the fields/pasture. D flies behind nest 8:19:39, then in BD w/small stick

& out 8:25:23; M does some stretching 8:57:40; M tries to tame the stick at
the FD 8:59:44, gives it a really hard tug 9:03:41 (not making much progress
with it); M pulls the stick onto the nest 9:04:25, puts it on the front-left
rail 9:05:03; M preens 9:13:15; crop drop 9:20:04; scratches head 9:25:34; M
squees as she sees D approaching 9:30:06, D in BD w/partial squirrel 9:30:12; D
fluffs the fluff 9:31:10; D rouses 9:34:16; D to RB 9:34:27 & out 9:35:40;
M finishes her breakfast 10:27:50, feaks on stick 10:28:15, then moves to
center of nest 10:28:36; M turns to face front of nest 10:30:20 & flies out
FD 10:30:26; M in BSD 10:53:30; Rearranges fluff 10:53:43; M preens 11:34:02; M
waggles tail 11:43:05 & briefly poofs up; M preens brood patch 11:55:38
then her hood; moves some fluff 11:56:50; crop drop 12:02:32; M digs in the
nest 12:02:54, pulls in some fluff 12:03:09; M to LB 12:34:22 & out
12:34:24; D in BSD 1:00:00; rouses 1:01:44; D fluffs the fluff 1:07:55, D to LB
1:11:17, rouses 1:11:26, flies out 1:12:15. Ground report per Lou: Dad just
flew off over the guard shack. Mom is not here. {As of 3:15, no activity since
D left}; D in BSD 3:46:03; D moves toward right side to move a pine cone and
dig in nest 3:53:08; M in BSD 3:53:22; D rouses 3:56:26; D to LB 4:01:23 &
out 4:01:26; M preens 4:11:44, pecks at & digs in fluff 4:13:44; pecks at
fluff again 4:17:14; calls out 4:17:32; sirens cause coyotes to start howling
4:21:59 as M calmly stands in the nest listening (Lou says there are no dogs at
the nest area); M preens 4:34:17, digs in nest a time or two 4:34:51 then
preens some more; M fluffs the fluff 4:49:26 then turns around in the bole; M
swipes her head on her shoulder 4:51:44; D lands on LB 4:57:27, hops to nest 4:57:49 as M is digging
in the fluff; D checks for an egg (no luck) then starts fluffing fluff
alongside M 4:58:33; D has to throw out a wing for balance after M bumps into
hi 5:01:02; M starts digging again 5:01:37; D rouses 5:01:39; D out BSD
5:02:24; M swipes head on shoulder 5:03:48; preens wing 5:05:33; looks around
for a long time, preens every now & then; M calls out 5:32:24 &
5:35:05; fiddles with the fluff 5:35:33; stretches 5:35:46; calls out again
5:26:02 & moves more fluff; calls again 5:36:21; D in BSD 5:56:17, M bows
down & her feathers are ruffled as she greets him; D bites at & moves a
small stick 5:56:55 & M gets out of his way 5:17:10; M digs in nest
5:57:30; D out BSD 6:01:44. NIGHT: IR light on 6:13:18; M tucks head to sleep
6:36:06; Rocky runs up 9-o'clock branch 6:46:21 & wakes M; M tucks her head
again 6:52:25; M rouses 6:56:58 then preens tail feathers; preens wings; tucks
head again 7:05:00; M wakes up 7:16:41, looks ; around, more preening; M fluffs
up 7:35:14; M turns around in the nest 7:39:33; preens wing 7:40:26; scratches
head 7:45:58; repositions 7:47:40, digs in nest 7:47:53; M repositions again
7:49:56 & ends with a tail waggle; moves again 7:50:32 & 7:50:37;
preens wing 7:51:45; M peacefully standing, almost dozing off; M preens chest
8:17:27; head swipe 8:18:15 then more preening; M tucks head 8:20:42, goes to
sleep; M wakes up and scratches head 8:51:53, then preens; tucks head again
8:57:32; M wakes up 9:34:34, preens tail & chest; preens wing 9:37:17,
waggles tail 9:37:37; tucks head & goes back to sleep 9:38:42; M wakes up
9:41:21, tucks back in 9:47:21; M wakes up & preens belly 10:02:28; tucks
in again 10:03:08; M wakes up 11:02:03, seems to doze again (without tucking
her head); sneezes @ 11:50; preens 11:58:34pm.
